Caprese Salad

A fairly simple dish to assemble – which can be prepared ahead and also makes a very nice presentation on your table or buffet.

You can feature fresh mozzarella cheese, if you have it available – but I often used the pre-sliced mozzarella you can find in the deli department for ease of assembly (and uniformity).

Use the most ripe and succulent tomatoes you can find. If you can find heirloom tomatoes (pictured below) they are often times the best quality.

You can serve as a side dish or large first course, as pictured below.

Layer slices of tomato and mozzarella with leaves of basil. Think about presentation and how you can make your dish look best!

Options for finishing include salt & pepper, a drizzle of olive oil, and a drizzle of basil oil or balsamic vinegar reduction.
